BOARD OF DIRECTORS

We acknowledge that we are on stolen, unceded, and traditional lands belonging to the 29 Tribes of Washington State. Let us all work to dismantle an unjust system rooted in segregation and white privilege.

Founder/Director of Seed2Fork

Michele Ada Alston, Ed.D

Raised by my grandparents, I grew up learning hard work and service. My grandfather, a skilled horticulturist, and later a bread maker at Wonder Bread, shared bread and garden produce with our neighbors weekly. My grandmother worked at General Motors as a “Black Rosie the Riveter” during WWII, then as a cook at Rider College, with other family members following suit at Princeton University. Service ran in our family.

At 14, I started working in my uncle’s business, where I learned customer service, a firm handshake, and networking skills. During my Master’s and Doctoral studies, I broke ground as a Black woman in Systems Thinking, pioneering corporate roles and working on impactful projects, including delivering emergency vehicles to Africa with Boeing leadership. My 25-year corporate career allowed me to work with renowned experts like Dr. Edward Deming and Dr. Ron Heifetz.

After retiring, I returned to service.

Our farm now focuses on social justice, supporting marginalized communities, and promoting prevention gardening for Type 2 diabetes.

STEM Coordinator

Vicki Welch

Mathematics and Science is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the creation of STEM-focused interdisciplinary. Our goal is to provide hands-on STEM project-based learning experiences in which students use 21st-century skills collaboratively to solve real problems in their communities.

Through this process, our urban, rural, and low-income communities learn essential 21st-century skills while at the same time exceeding the standards as identified in the CCSS for mathematics and ELA and the Common Core State Standards. Our goal is to ensure that all the communities we serve are prepared to enter a career pathway in agroforestry gardens. For our communities to be successful, we provide the following STEM principles:

Collaborate with our communities who are part of a STEM garden project, provide specific strategies for improved instructional delivery, and serve as a resource in identifying appropriate research-based instructional strategies and interventions to improve their community STEM Garden Project.

Knowledge of and experience with backwards-designed curricular models and Understanding by Design, with significant experience with instructional best practices. Also, the ability to model positive and healthy character traits and habits, such as being organized, consistent, and understanding.

Authentic Arts Integration

Debra Pryor

One of Seed2Fork’s hallmarks of Arts Integration is that it is grounded in connected standards. When Debra is creating or teaching a lesson, she asks: What standards am I addressing in both the content and the arts areas? She believes that if you can’t identify both, it’s not true arts integration.

When you’re working on an arts integration lesson, you’ll feel like the line between the content and the arts is blurred.
That’s a good thing! In arts integration, the arts serve as an avenue through which students apply and connect previously taught content. The arts are not just servicing the content—instead, both the content area and the arts area are interconnected.

In an arts integration lesson, the final assessment reflects growth in both the content area and the arts area that were taught. I’m looking for growth in those areas, not mastery. Only the arts teachers can evaluate an arts standard for mastery, just as only the classroom/content teachers can evaluate a content standard for mastery. But anyone can measure growth in both areas.

Director After School Programs

Andi Beverly Webber

Building on a tradition of over 100 years, Le Cordon Bleu is a global leader in the culinary arts, known for its prestigious name and outstanding reputation in the culinary and hospitality industry. At Seed2Fork, we are fortunate to have Chef Andrea (Andi) Webber—a graduate of this renowned institution—as the Director of our After-School Program.

Le Cordon Bleu laid the foundation for her culinary education, instilling in her the importance of practical skills, creativity, and precision. As a pâtisserie chef, Andi embraces the joy of creating nutritious baked goods such as fruit tarts, cakes, ice cream, and more—using quality ingredients as her artistic palette.

Chef Andi supports her students in creating their own Children’s Rainbow Cookbook. She is deeply aware of the rising rates of type 2 diabetes in children, driven by the ongoing obesity epidemic. Her classes provide hands-on nutrition-based cooking instruction and wellness-focused physical activities aimed at helping children adopt healthier habits—potentially preventing the need for early oral medication.

This is not just another after-school cooking program. Through these classes, students build essential life skills, including interpersonal communication, active listening, and teamwork.
